Yuri Mamute, so called because of his ‘mammoth-like’ size is one of the supposed next generation of youth talent in Brazil, some of which have made the news in the last few days.

The forward who was first promoted to Grêmio’s first-team squad in June for observation has impressed new manager Celso Roth enough to get his opportunity.

“Yuri is here to give us an alternative,” said Roth this week. “It’s early yet, he is only a boy of 16 years, he has much to learn.

“He has very good qualities for development in a technical sense, because he is already so good in a physical sense.”
