Ronaldinho, 32, is paid in the region of £125,000 a week by the Rio de Janeiro club, but they now owe £725,000 to the star in unpaid salary, including £250,000 in image rights.
President of Finance, Michel Levy, confirmed the debt: “I had a conversation with Assis. Everything is under control.
“Is there a debt? There is. We will pay it off when a sponsorship is received. We agreed, we compromised verbally.
“There is talk that we have difficulty. Of course, we don’t have a sponsor, but this won’t last forever. But, for now, this is the situation.”
