Corinthians match-winning striker Emerson Sheik believes he has proven his critics wrong with his brace in the final of the Copa Libertadores, as Corinthians beat Boca Juniors 2-0 at the Pacaembu.

Emerson, 33, joined Corinthians under a cloud in early-2011 after being accused of ‘acts of indiscipline’ by former club Fluminense.

Since, though, the pacy striker has made headlines on the pitch, winning a third Brasileirão title in three seasons and now, firing his side to the Copa Libertadores title

“One year ago they accused me of absurd things. Many people do not like me because they say I’m not professional but I’m very happy,” Emerson said post-match.

“I’m a professional and today will not cry. They got it wrong with me. Now, I am a Libertadores champion.

“I like these games. The crowd that followed the story knows how important it was.”
