Santos’ Neymar has slammed São Paulo’s football governing body, the FPF, for scheduling matches during Brazil’s carnival celebrations.
Neymar scored a consolation goal in Santos’ 3-1 defeat to Paulista and the forward made his feelings known after the match.
“It is disappointing to lose but even more so during the carnival,” said Neymar. “This is a holiday, we shouldn’t have to work.”
Brazil’s carnival festivities officially began on Friday and will continue until its conclusion on Wednesday where the majority of the country’s workforce returns to work.
After the defeat, Santos now drop to second after being overtaken by Ponte Preta. Neymar is also currently leading the goalscoring charts with six goals from seven games.
