An exceptional career
Considered one of the best players of all time, Marta holds numerous records. She has won the FIFA Best Player award six times between 2006 and 2018, an absolute record. With 115 goals, she is the top scorer in Brazilian history, both at the men’s and women’s level. Her 17 goals in World Cups also represent the best mark in the history of the Selecao. Likewise, she was the first soccer player to score in five consecutive World Cups.
In the Olympic Games, in addition to making five consecutive appearances, he won two silver medals (2004 and 2008). At club level, her greatest achievement was the Women’s Champions League in 2004 with Umeå IK.

Marta was part of the squad that represented the country in Australia and New Zealand in the last Women’s World Cup. Although she couldn’t score, her presence meant leadership and an example for the younger girls to follow. Brazil’s performance was not as expected, as it fell in the group stage. The experienced attacker could not hold back her tears, aware that she had probably spent her last game with the national team. A powerful image that demonstrated her love for the auriverde shirt.
