The winter market in the Brazilian Série A championship is much more active than that of any other South American league. Backed by greater financial power, Brazilian clubs take advantage of this period to bring in even more renowned players to a league that already features world-class players.
Not satisfied with bringing back footballers born in the country who then shone in Europe (Thiago Silva and Philippe Coutinho, for instance), the Brasileirão also boasts talent produced in the Old Continent.
The latest addition to the list of Europeans in Brazil is the Dane Martin Braithwaite, who joined Grêmio after being the top scorer in Spain’s second tier with Espanyol.
