It’s official. 15 years later, Thiago Silva will return to Fluminense. The veteran Brazilian defender will go back to Rio de Janeiro in July, once his current contract with Chelsea expires.
The 39-year-old will strengthen Fernando Diniz’s side aiming to help the club win its second Copa Libertadores, after Tricolor lifted the trophy for the first time in 2023. The former captain of the Brazilian national team already knows what it’s like to be a club continental champion, but not in South America.

Having won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, Silva now will be looking to join the exclusive list of footballers who have been crowned both in Europe and on the other side of the Atlantic.
