On Friday afternoon (10), coach Dorival Júnior announced, at the headquarters of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), the 23 players called up for the Brazilian national team who will compete in the Copa América.

The competition, which involves teams from South America, North America and Central America, begins on June 20 and ends on July 14, being played in the United States.

Evanilson was the big surprise of the call-up

  • The center-forward position is one of the most contested in the Brazilian national team, with interesting possibilities;
  • One of the players called up was Endrick, from Palmeiras, who scored goals in the matches against England and Spain, in the last FIFA date;
  • The other, surprisingly, was Evanilson, from Porto, who was revealed in the youth categories of Fluminense.

Evanilson is going through a great phase in European football

In 39 matches played in the current European football season, Evanilson scored 24 goals and provided 5 assists, being one of the great highlights of Porto. Despite this, the Dragons are far from a spot in the UEFA Champions League, and should settle for only the Europa League.

In the Champions League, Evanilson’s average is good: he has scored four goals in seven matches. At Porto, he is a teammate of seven other Brazilians: Samuel Portugal (goalkeeper), Otávio (defender), Pepe (defender), Wendell (left-back), Pepê (forward), Galeno (forward) and Wendel Silva (forward).

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
