The last few years have shown clear dominance by Brazilian teams in continental competition, especially in the Libertadores. It shouldn’t be a surprise, since we’re talking about a country that lives and breathes football, producing some of the sport’s biggest legends while lifting five World Cups.

Overall, Brazil have 11 clubs who have won the Libertadores a combined 23 times. Only Argentina (25) boast more championships, but through eight clubs. Besides, what makes Brazil stand out from other South American nations is the number of representatives sharing the record of titles in the country.

With three Libertadores trophies each, São Paulo, Santos, Flamengo, Grêmio and Palmeiras share the record for being Brazil’s most successful clubs in the competition. No other country has so many teams atop its Libertadores’ winners list.

But Brazil also have multiple continental champions in Cruzeiro and Internacional, as both tasted the ultimate glory twice.

Fluminense became the latest Brazilian club to win the Libertadores by getting their hands on the trophy for the first time in 2023. With that victory, Flu joined Vasco da Gama, Corinthians and Atlético Mineiro with one title each.
